Objective

For this project, I researched a famous graphic designer, Bradbury Thompson, and his body of work. I then made this book to display Thompson’s work and educate the reader on his design career.

I aimed to reflect Bradbury Thompson’s methods in the design of this book, thus making it an embodiment of Thompson himself.

Process

I intentionally made this book in a landscape format to best display Thompson’s work. to prevent the book from feeling too long when opened,  I made a vertical grid and added vertical line elements.

Additionally, I put multiple types of paper into the book to differentiate chapters—something Thompson did in his own work. I also used a typeface for chapter heads that mimicked the typeface Thompson made during his career. Even the colors of the book (CMYK) reflects his work.

Takeaway

Designing my Bradbury Thompson Book was a great opportunity for me to sharpen my compositional, typographic, and book-making skills. The challenges I faced also improved my problem-solving skills, which allowed me to create solutions that ultimately bettered my book.
